The Sewage System!
The
People of Quetta were very happy and were thankful to the TAXPAYERS OF HOLLAND
for their huge donations to build a sewage system for Quetta! Alas, this
happiness did not last long and the dream never materialized. What had happened
was that after a decade's planning and bureaucratic wrangling the project got
underway in early 90s, especially during 1993-94 and instead of executing the
project in stages, all the street/roads were dug out at once to lay down the
sewage pipes. People couldn't get out of their homes easily, dust was everywhere
and the already chaotic traffic had become a total failure. The people of Quetta
were tolerating all this just because (they thought) they were going to get the
sewerage system and that their city would become cleaner, more hygienic and less
stinky! Hurray! But no, nothing happened afterwards; 100s of kilometers of
sewage pipes remain *buried beneath the surface, 100s of people must have died as a
direct result of inhaling dense dust pollution. Many businesses suffered. To
this date we don't know what happened to the project? All we know is that few people became
millionaire out of this big scam - at the expense of the residents of Quetta and
Dutch Taxpayers! No inquiries were ever carried out and no public reports are
available as to the failure of this grand project. The photo below is an example
where a street is being dug out as a preparation for that project. I wish I had
taken more photos that would have shown the real picture! We must acknowledge
the generosity of the people of Holland who gave millions of dollars for this
project. But shame on those who got away with every thing and the project never got materialized! * After a few centuries the residents of modern Quetta (if that
ever happened!) would excavate all these pipes again and would claim they have
discovered an old and modern civilization whose sewage pipes were so clean that
God knows what they did with their drainage wastes! Documentaries will be made
and specialists from around the world would be consulted to solve the enigma.
And then finally some clever guy will come up with the idea that these pipes were
never used and that the money meant for the project was misused by few who were
entrusted with this project!
